Hi all,
Some unknown Caterpillars of moths. Not sure on any of them to be honest. All found in South East Scotland in 2009 except the wooly bear lookalike photographed late April 2010. Any help much appreciated.
Cheers IAC.
South East Scotland moth Caterpillars?
Re: South East Scotland moth Caterpillars?
hi
i am no expert,
but i think the first may be the fox moth caterpillar, the 2nd maybe the garden tiger one, and the 3rd possibly a hawkmoth, if the thing at the end is a spike, but i am not sure about the spike,
hope that helps,
Pat

Hi Pat,
Thankyou so much for that reply. I think you have Fox moth spot on. The tiger is a tiger....but it was very small maybe to be a Garden. I have had a suggestion it may be a Ruby Tiger....I had hoped it was a much rarer Wood Tiger....the photo is not very convincing. The green one is still a mystery. You said it may be a Hawk Moth of some type....though I have had many different opinions so far on other forums.
Thanks again for your help.....oh and by the way.....none of us are experts...we are learning something new all the time, thats what makes it fun.
