glasdrum wood

Post by sandraandkevin »

Hi all,

Could anyone tell me whether the Chequered Skippers have been seen yet at Glasdrum Wood. I haven't seen any postings on various sites yet.

Also are there any good sites near the Cairngorms for Butterflies or Dragonflies.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Just got a text from Trev Sawyer, who tells me he found 2 Chequered Skipper in 5 hours of searching in damp and drizzly Scottish weather (not sure where)! The point is - they're starting to emerge. Just as well since I intend to drop in to Glasdrum at the end of next week!

Also - there's a survey planned for the weekend of 29th May at Glasdrum, so the locals should be "in the know" that this is a good time to visit!

I agree - the BC branch website might not have been updated for a while.

Cheers,

- Pete

You'll be in good company - since the organised survey is on the Saturday:

BTW - Trev tells me he was at Glasdrum.

Anyone hazard a guess who Mr Focks might have been? Presumably he lived somewhere near Dorking. (Picture taken just to the west of Denbies).

Goodness, I bet young Richard must have had a difficult time at school.

Visited Glasdrum Wood on Monday 24 May. Initially it was overcast but as soon as the sun came out Chequered Skippers appeared. I saw 2 or 3 different individuals in about 4 different parts of the nature reserve. The best spot was just above and west of the car park under the power lines although I also saw two individuals on the grass verge between the car park and the road!
