May Sightings in Southern Brittany

Post by Elaine »

An unprecedentedly cold May has got in the way of butterflies, moths and dragonflies that we would normally have recorded.

However firsts for the year :

Dingy Skipper (Le point-de-Hongrie) - first week (garden)
Sooty Copper (Cuivré fuligineux) - Thursday 13th (garden)
Small Heath (Procris) - Thursday 13th (garden)
Swallowtail (Machaon) - Saturday 15th (Vannes dog club - flew past us whilst we were awaiting results!)

I have only put out my moth trap once this year - as opposed to 5 or 6 times.

Broad-bodied Chaser (Libellule déprimé) males x 2 over the pond on Thursday 13th
Large Red Damselfly (Corps de feu) x 1 " " " " " "

Oh, and my daughter and her young Border Collie passed their obedience certificate this morning just before the Swallowtail flew over. This enables her to compete in agility. As her Mum and trainer I am chuffed to pieces - the Swallowtail must have wanted to congratulate her too, as she is passionate about wildlife! :D
A bientôt
