Scarlet Tiger caterpillar?

Post by traplican »

Yesterday I have taken to the photos a caterpillar and I have determinated it as Scarlet Tiger - Callimorpha dominula. I want to ask if it is correct determination and if so then I want to offer it for the album Moths/Scarlet Tiger.

The photos are here: photo1, photo2, photo3, photo4 and here is the place of the find.

Looks like it to me! I've never seen one in a location quite like that before though - was it crawling off somewhere to pupate, I wonder?

A couple of (poor) photos - an early instar larva from March this year, and some from the same site in 2009 where they are shredding the foodplant.
