Not lepidoptera - India

Post by Padfield »

At the risk of boring everyone, here are a few shots of creatures other than butterflies lurking on my path around India over Easter. I haven't got the sort of camera that can take wildlife, but some piccies are interesting enough to be worth sharing despite their quality.

The fish was never going to be able to swallow this snakebird:

The snakebird got away, its dignity just about intact:

A wild elephant, seen from the car as we drove through the Mudumalai tiger reserve on the way to Ooty:

This is a working elephant, browsing by the side of the same road:

Pelicans at Mysore:

A perky little pied bushchat:

A sambar stag (Cervus (Rusa) unicolor), attended by an Indian crow:

An Indian myna:

And the evil Mahishasura, whose name was anglicised into 'Mysore':

He was defeated by Chamundeshwari, the Godess of Mysore.
