There's a small UN-IDed Mirth on my Kitchen window tonight..
.... Here it is :~
A welcome little reminder that spring cannot be that far away ~ looking forward to seeing that bright yellow jobbie on the first sunny day next month if it is on time as it usually is.

Hi Cockney,
Not sure on the moth but I would go with Winter Moth.
However, I'm sure I can see that other common species throughout December in the picture - the family size tub of Celebrations!
Cheers

Yep its a winter moth. The other day I found 10, here is a shot I got of witer moth. This is a male as females only have stubs for wings and can't fly. Males can come and sit on lighted window all night. In some areas they can be very common, they are where I live:
Here are two different size ones:
Only one similar is Northern Winter Moth, its usually bigger than a winter moth, but winter moths can be same size too (males only) so its often hard to tell difference in both.
So your quote:

Is not exactly true as these can be found throught the winter from late autumn right through to FebruaryA welcome little reminder that spring cannot be that far away.
Cheers all,

Thanks for the replies. However, it was a brave soul to venture out this Winter!
Wossdisden? ...Took this picture sometime ago :~
Nice little thing ~ rather larger than the one in the OP and better than the condition of the OP one. Looks like same species only different pose.

Apologies for the quality of these images. The only digital camera I have is an Olympus FE-210 ~ small, very compact and suits most of my needs but, very limited in operation. For many years I've used negative film SLRs with good close up equipment ~ not got round to Digital SLR yet ... maybe one day.

Not too clued up with plumes, but a starting point would be Amblyptilia acanthadactyla http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=4926 or Amblyptilia puntidactyla http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=2677.

Thanks for that ~ looks like you nailed it there. Fascinating little Moths ~ I frequently see the odd one about the garden ~ rarely 'in the field'... no two look the same ~ I did not realise we have so many different species here inthe UK.
One was a beautiful Pink colour and larger than the one I pictured here ~ did not get a picture of that. When I returned with the camera, it had moved from my window.
