Pretty Corner woodland complex, Sheringham, North Norfolk (TG154414) was very interesting 60 years ago with Pearl Bordered and High Brown (yes) Fritillaries, Green Hairstreak and the usual common species. I never came across Comma or White Admiral there although I did see both species in East Norfolk so in all probability I simple missed them at Pretty Corner. Wall Browns were widespread and didn’t even merit any special attention. However, Speckled Woods were certainly absent then in East and North Norfolk.
Today of course, there are no PB and High Brown Frits, Walls are more or less confined to within some 20 kms of the coast. Conversely Speckled Woods are abundant and widespread.
Google Earth suggests that there is still some good habitat in the Pretty Corner woods. Does anyone have up-to-date knowledge? White Admirals perhaps? Maybe even Silver Washed Fritillaries? And presumably Green Hairstreaks still occur.
And further west, I wonder how the Warham Fort Chalkhill Blues are faring? That is a relatively new species for Norfolk.

I frequent the Stalham area but know Pretty corner well - and unfortunately have never seen any Fritillaries there ( or White Admirals). The best site for WAs near there is Holt Wood where there is an abundance of Honeysuckle..... and it's a very nice walk. Great county ... sadly not the best for the range of butterflies.
