hi all,

just like to thank all those that awarded my image enough points that it came out the winner of the test competition, but still can't work out why when it seemed so many of you in this thread were very interested to have a test competition to explore the new mechanism, but then weren't bothered enough to enter any of your own images in order to make a more rounded example, especialy after pete had gone to the bother of setting it up.
still at least it looks a fair system. :)

That may be because at least I was under the impression that Pete was supposed to provide the pictures.

Hi Gary,

I was under the impression that members were only to vote in the test comp.
The only photo that Pete didn't put in, won.

The point was for individuals to test whatever aspects of the new mechanism they felt like testing. The only reason for me putting a random selection of images in was to ensure that we actually had some to vote on!

Anyway - good feedback so far!

Cheers,

Actually Pete,
I think your Camberwell Beauty larva won... The default set-up seems to be "Descending time when posted". ie The Silver Studded Blue was posted last and heads the list if viewed as it comes up. If you sort by "Ratings descending" (via the boxes under the competition photos), you will see that the rating for the caterpillar was slightly higher - 7.18 to 7.14. Is that correct, or am I reading it wrong.
PS. I too thought Pete had put all 10 photos up for us to vote on. This was obviously a good idea as we are still finding little things out.

I think that the winner is decided by the actual number of points and not the average rating.
Is that right?

Yes - and that's the whole "point" :D

I'll see if I can get the default sort order for competitions to be based on points - rather than time. In fact, I'll see if I can make the display to emphasize points rather than rating, in general.

Keep that feedback coming - it's all good!

Cheers,

- Pete

Actually Pete,
Thinking about it, you should only get the default sorting to be based on points after the closing time for voting... or voters will be able to see who is winning before they vote?

No points or rating is visible until voting has finished.
