Comma is still out

Post by eccles »

The local wildlife park has a buddleia that was cut right down in the spring. It made a late spurt of growth and is still in flower, enough to tempt this comma for ten minutes or so yesterday. The butterfly was rather on the small size so it could be stoking up until the last minute before going into hibernation.
Three red admirals were flying in the same park today.

No Commas about on Bathampton Down at the moment, but a Painted Lady and two Red Admirals yesterday, and three Red Admirals and a possible Speckled Wood today. I was really looking for Small Coppers today, which nectar on the yellow hawk-things which are still there in numbers, but there were none to be seen.

I'm still seeing red admirals locally, and in good condition too, but not seen a painted lady since early September. Speckled woods have still been around in varying condition but mostly getting tatty now.
