I've just bought the state of butterflies in UK and notice a big dot for Large Heath around the Welsh border south of LIverpool. I've never seen a LH (cry). As I go home to Liverpool from the South coast kind of often, I'd like to try and spot this creature. Can anybody tell me where this site is. I would say it looks like the Staffordshire neck of the woods.

There's a famous colony of Large Heath in North Shropshire at Wem & Whixall Moss.

They are the davus form as well so very pretty!
The site is also very good for curlew, adders, raft spiders and lizards if you're interested, plus a few types of sundew.
It's one of my favourite places but I've never been there at the right time to see the Large Heath... the Mrs seems to book out 6 weekends of every summer to go and see people I've never met get married. Hmmph.
