Large Whites

Post by David M »

I know they're common and by definition not a great deal of attention is paid to them but yet again I have been out today and observed silly numbers of them.

Weatherwise, it's been a very ordinary year here in Monmouthshire but I have seen greater quantities of Large Whites than I can ever remember.

We seem to be struggling for Tortoishells and Wall Browns but Large Whites (and to a lesser extent, Small Whites) have been abundant.

I'm not an expert but even my untrained brain is failing to compute why these insects have apparently had a bumper year.

Has it been the same everywhere and does anyone have a credible theory as to why this is so?
