I should have asked if all were taken in UK or not, but since I thought they were all UK species, I couldn't think of any other butterfly in UK with yellow proboscus, but I know there are more outside of UK that have yellow proboscus

Well - there are 113 species reported from the British Isles (including accidental introductions etc). Perhaps you have a different list that gives 112?

Your right...it says in "British and Irish Butterflies" by Adrian M. Riley that there are 112. Whats the missing one then? Well I kinda figured that you'd get that one Pete. Over to you

Hi Dave - I was talking about the number of species in total (including all secondary species). I wasn't summing all of the subspecies and forms which is what Adrian's total refers to.

So - since I got it wrong - perhaps you'd like to set the next question?

Oh, yeah the book refers to all species that were native at one point or known immigrants/vagrents. I didn't know you meant species, but since you got close enough, I can say you can have the next question, I don't really have another at the moment anyway

Well, I don't think I'd ever have got that, as I've seen your mug shot in the Rogues' Gallery and there weren't any wrinkles there...

Sunday's a pretty busy day for me, and now I have to attend to my little furry friend, so maybe this thread can move back down to andante, rather than the presto of recent times! I'll post a question in due course, unless someone else chooses to do so first.

She's declining, Alex, but her life is still worth living. This morning the vet is going to give me a lesson in intravenous rehydration (her kidneys don't reabsorb enough water, no matter how much she drinks) so I can do it at home... Thanks for asking.

EDIT: I've had my lesson. It was in fact for subcutaneous hydration, not intravenous - the vet had said 'une perfusion', which means either. But subcutaneous is much easier - you just stick a needle under the skin, turn on the tap and let the liquid dribble in.
