hi,
just a question on identification of a clouded yellow i found today at barton common.
im familiar with the butterfly in its usual dress and see it here most years some times in number, ive seen helice before or what ive assumed were form helice, but i managed to get a top shot of the butterfly, all be it pretty fuzzy as it was blowing a gale and hard to keep in frame let alone focus on it.
it did settle into some protected braken and i got a fair record of the underside, but the top looks so pale with very pale edge border on the hind wings?
anyone able to give some guidance?
gary.

Helice. Notice how the dark border to the forewing curves inwards where it reaches the trailing edge. I think that rules out hyale or alfacariensis.

for some reason although that was staring me in the face i hadn't picked up on it, perhaps i was hoping it could be something else.
