Hi Amanda,

Thurlbear Quarrylands is very good and also Bucklands Wood.
Directions are on the map page but both sites are close to you.

Hi Amanda,

If you are still looking for good sites in Somerset near Taunton, here are a few more:

Mount Fancy and Langford Heathfield are good for Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries,

Staple Common - Wood Whites,

Haddon Hill - Heath Fritillaries.

If you want to travel a bit further, there are some other good sites in the area - post back here and I'll add to the list!

PS: Thurlbear Quarrylands is one of my favourites.....

Hi Amanda,

Here's a map.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=32 ... 72210&st=5

If you need a more detailed written route, I'd be happy to send you one.
Also, it might be worth buying 50 Butterfly Walks in Somerset and Bristol from the branch BC. It's a great little book with detailed maps of the sites, what you might see and how to get there. It has come in very handy for me.

Cheers

hello,
Went to thurlbear quarry yesterday. we found thurlbear wood first it goes into a public right of way that was a farmers field. Took a picture of a small blue... think thats what it is.

Then drove a bit more and stumbled on thurlbear quarry, walked down the bridlepath and thought, not much here then walked up the bank and got lost in the woods lol
there was a path to the left so walked up there to our surprise was a gate with nature reserve... walked through passed the Kiln. and then found a lovely patch oh grass land, not very big but had lots of flowers and lots of butterflies, sadly we didnt have a lot of time there. but did manage to take some pictures.
will be back, as we can do Line wood and here on the same day.

I didn't know such things existed. Are there any for Monmouthshire, where I live?

Hi David,

Sorry, I have no idea. Look on your local BC site under publications to find out.
