Small Moth
I found this moth today on a dandilion, when I got close, it fell off and crawled under the plant. Anyone know what it is:

Re: Small Moth
Not sure, I don't recall it having copper underwings, I think they were grey or something, could be wrong as it went under the plant before I got a good look. I was reading "Butterflies and moths of Northern Ireland" and Svensson's Copper Underwing has been only recorded in Co Clare and not sure if its present in Northern Ireland and the flght period is 26 July to 23 October, a little early to be that (or thats the flight period for could be for copper underwing)Chocky wrote:It looks a bit like Svensson's Copper Underwing Amphipyra

Re: Small Moth
Dave, I think your moth is one of the Minors, a difficult group for which genitalic dissection is often necessary, but I would suggest probably the Tawny Marbled Minor.

Either that or Rufous Minor. Those two are impossible as Mikhail wrote.
