Summer

Post by Susie »

Looks like we've got a cracking few hot sunny days coming up, particularly over the weekend. The only problem is where to go first! So many butterflies, so little time.

A very pretty sunset. :D

I'm loving this weather but it is getting a bit on the hot side, even for me who likes it hot. It was hearly 32 degrees in the shade in the garden yesterday and today it feels even hotter. My car gauge for the outside temperature read 41 degrees (the car was in the sun) when I got into it this afternoon - praise the lord for air con! :D

Got better than we did, by the end of July is started to rain here and August was a washout most of it, flooding here yesterday, glad its sunny today though, hope September is sunny at least. Get some shots of autumn and go mushroom hunting

There seems to have been a definite split this summer, almost as if there's been a "Maginot" line running from around Norwich down toward Southampton way, east of which has seen temperatures and sunshine levels far in excess of what has been 'enjoyed' west of that line.

The last proper summer's day here in Monmouthshire was 1st July (by that, I mean 75F or above). The rest of July was atrocious and August has been almost as bad apart from the first week or so.

In spite of all that, I've noticed butterfly numbers in excess of normal when the weather has actually been decent. Hopefully these adults have bred successfully and we will get another winter with a pronounced cold snap to kill off their predators.

Well, at least us westerners don't get the hose pipe bans in dry summers. It has been cloudy, drizzly, and misty where i am in south Dorset. Tomorrow looks like it will be better...Fingers X'd. :)
Cheers,,, Zonda.

Yeah, but who needs a hosepipe ban when there is plenty of water falling from the sky? Anyway, the rest of the week here does look good, well cloudy but dry rest of week. Want to see whats around whenever I can, been seeing not much recent, odd tortoiseshell and red admiral and Painted Ladies, seen hundreds of various spiders though.
