Prestbury Hill

Post by Simon C »

Visited last Sunday, for the first time.

[Train to Cheltenham Spa, taxi to Cotswold Way east of GCHQ offices £12, then walk. Return by walking into Prestbury to catch a bus back into Cheltenham; on Sunday it was retro day on the bus service; I assume they don't always use buses from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. I caught an old routemaster, just like On the Buses, except the conductor was Polish :) .]

Stonking numbers of Dukes, 50+. Biggest concentration in Happy Valley in the Bill Smillie reserve, but plenty to the south east outside the reserve too, and the fields to the west. Many looking really fresh.

During the day an increasing number of Small Blues began to take flight; dozens in total, most concentrated in the Masts reserve where they could be seen taking up minerals alongside a few Green Hairstreaks.

Also DS, SC, CB, BA, B, P, PL (of course), OT, SpW and whites all in various numbers, and several types of day flying moths.
