Papilionist?

Post by Pete Eeles »

Entomologists study insects.

Lepidopterists study butterflies and moths.

Is there a separate name for someone who studies butterflies?

And a separate name for someone who studies moths?

Just curious!

Who are we ?

I've been wondering this myself, and also wondering about a "common" name too, as for example birder. for someone who is into birds (butterflyer sounds a little clumsy). All I've managed to come up with so far is butthead, or , for the increasing number of people into the dual pursuit of searching for butterflies and dragonflies, buttdragger.....or if you prefer, Odono-papillionist.
