butterfly ID requested, Rewell Woods

Post by Colin Knight »

Could anyone identify this please? I estimate is was 20-30mm across, 5pm today, resting on bracken in Rewell Woods near Arundel, West Sussex. I also saw 6 PB Fritillaries in the same area which were about twice the width. thanks.

Hi, this is not a butterfly but a moth, looks like a butterfly though. Its Speckled Yellow (Pseudopanthera macularia):http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=276
