Butterfly Photographs and Drawings - Exhibition at Arundel
Hi all,
A visit to Arundel is always worthwhile at this time of the year - plenty to do and see, including the castle, cathedral, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and the Arundel Farmers Market (this coming Saturday). If you're in the area, I'm putting on a BC fund-raiser and recruitment event (over 16s £1 per head entry), over the Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April (11am - 5pm) at the Norfolk Centre, by the lower castle gates in Mill Road. 'The Beautiful Butterflies of Sussex' is a collection of 36 photos and drawings, most of which were taken in the county. Many of you will recognise the odd 'ringer' - such as 'the Black-veined White of Stockbridge Down'. Would be good to see the odd UKB member there - all proceeds go towards conservation of butterflies in Sussex (mainly our Duke of Burgundy conservation programme).

Re: Butterfly Photographs and Drawings - Exhibition at Arundel
Hi Gruditch (and thanks for the recognition of my beauty Pete
)
Yes, these were my first efforts since I was a nipper, largely because I'm too damn competitive and my older brother's a 'proper' artist - he did all the paintings for 'Ducks, Geese and Swans' (ed. Janet Kear) and contributed illustrations to things like 'Birds of the Western Paleartic'. My younger brother's a decorator and uses a roller - so I'm somewhere in between. Will probably get down to some more next winter as I quite enjoyed it once I got going.

I agree - these are really excellent drawings. I'm sorry I can't nip across to Arundel and see the exhibition.

Thanks Gruditch. Let's hope the event raises enough money to fund some habitat management work.

Hi Neil,
Your drawings are so good that I thought that they were black and white edited photos.
You have a real talent there.

Thanks to all for the supportive and encouraging remarks. It certainly helps to calm the nerves - doing something like this 'solo' means there's no one else to 'hide behind'! When it's all set up tomorrow I'll be very relieved!

Yes, great stuff! I'm sure you are your harshest critic; everyone else will be as impressed, and jealous of your good talent, as we all are here!
Good luck!

I am sorry that I wasn't able to make the exhibition but glad that it was the success you hoped it would be (which was a given considering how good your pictures are!
).
