Large Blue Warden!

Post by Pete Eeles »

I've just posted the following on the home page. A unique opportunity that I'd apply for myself, if I could!

A seven week temporary contract is being offered from 1st June to 18 July 2009, to warden Green Down Nature Reserve and other Polden sites monitoring, managing visitors and preventing disturbance to the Large Blue butterfly. You will be required to carry out butterfly, ant and thyme counts on Green Down and other Somerset Wildlife Trust Polden Hills reserves, as well as vegetation control and general maintenance of Green Down reserve. This role will include the protection of the Large Blue and will involve visitor management including groups, general public and media coverage. The reserve is closed for the flight period of the butterfly.

You will need to be highly motivated, capable of working without much supervision and with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to working on this 7 week project. It is an essential requirement for weekend work with time taken off in the week. Further information and application forms are available at www.somersetwildlife.org by email from lynn.caldwell@somersetwildlife.org or by telephone 01823 652420. Closing date: 17 April 2009 – 5.00 p.m. Interviews: 24 April 2009. £210 per week.

Cheers,

- Pete
