Camcorders

Post by Lynn »

Is anyone out there using a camcorder?

I am thinking of buying a Sony SR75 60gbhard disk one - not especially for butterflies just a bit of everything really.

Anybody got one?

Hi Lyn

If your interested, I have a Sony DCR-SR32E HANDYCAM HDD (Hard Disk Drive) 30GB, for sale, going cheap!! £150.00 only been out the box once - just don’t get a chance to use it, as it’s difficult trying to film and photograph at the same time.

Here is a link on Amazon for more details about it.

Product Description
Say goodbye to clutter with the DCR-SR32 from Sony! Equipped with a 30 GB hard drive, the DCR-SR32 lets you record over 20 hours of digital video in three different quality modes, while its 800,000-pixel CCD sensor, renowned Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and 40x optical zoom make sure your recordings come out sharp and clear each and every time. The DCR-SR32 is really easy to use and has a 2.5%u201D LCD screen, as well as 10 scene modes that adapt to any situation. You can even film in VGA resolution and save your creations directly to a Memory Stick Duo memory card, while its USB 2.0 connection transfers your films to your computer for easy editing. The high-performance and user-friendly DCR-SR32 lets you capture life%u2019s best moments, without the clutter of tapes or DVDs!

I have the sony SR75 it is excellent in everyway except the autofocus is not great for butterflies with a background, it keeps focussing on the background. It does have an autospot focus which sorts out this problem but it is down a couple of menus.

That is my only gripe on what is an excellent bit of kit.

You can see some of my movies taken with it on

some butterfly footage on Misc Wildlife 08 and Northern Ireland movies

Feel free to contact me if you want any more info

I use a Horizon HD video camera DVH-595 with a x5 optical Zoom. It has a macro mode f3.2 - f6.8. Has a built in flash and a light. Uses SD cards. My 8GB SDHC card can take over 4hours of video (1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames/second ) and it can take up to 16GB card. Has a 5cm to infinity auto focus. Takes videos in quicktime MOV format, and comes with a video editor on CD which I find is ok to use (i don't know a lot about video editing or have a fast enough computer to edit HD video much). I just wanted a video camera for videoing butterflies and other things, and wanted good quality, and this HD one seemd good, minus the not too far zoom, takes a lot of video on a 8-16GB SD card, but you'd need a few if you want to take a lot of videos.

See here for more on the camera: £134.10 http://www.technologyinthehome.com/Shop ... order.html
