Re: Goldie M
I'd a garden full of Red Admirals yesterday, plus lots of Whites, the Admirals were too high up in the Buddleia for photos but when I leaned over next doors fence I managed a couple of shots The Whites just flew through
The weather was dull all day yesterday no Sun, I was surprised the Butterflies were even flying and heavy rain today on and off so far, what a year it's been, I've a raid from fox's, this one must have had cubs because they broke my gate getting into the garden broke the bird bath and smashed through what flowers were still left, also broke through the fence where I'd planted Sweet Peas, no wonder the butterflies have disappeared Goldie

Re: Goldie M
Just got this shot of another Admiral on my door handle in the pouring rain they're certainly hardy littlie devils Goldie
Re: Goldie M
Butterflies and rain don't usually go together, making your shot unusual, Goldie.
Well done, and have a .

Re: Goldie M
That's an amazing shot of the Red Admiral in the rain, Goldie. Red Admirals are extraordinary butterflies all round - they've been seen on every date during the year, they fly in the rain, they migrate over mountains and they turn up in moth traps in the middle of the night. I've certainly seen them after sunset on warm evenings in the summer.

Re: Goldie M
Fantastic to get a photo in this weather and it tells a story too.
Re: Goldie M
Thanks for your posts ,Katrina, Trevor, Dave, I've not seen any today but the weather is much cooler and after I took that shot the Heavens opened, I noticed next doors roof had spaces under where a butterfly could shelter and the Admiral had flown that way, hope fully , Goldie
Re: Goldie M
Cracking images Goldie although I think one of them wants tom come in out of the rain

Hi! Wurzel and David, I tried to lure it in Wurzel but it shot off
They've been back these last couple of days in-between the Showers David also quite a few Whites,(They don't stay)
I did manage a long shot of an Admiral today even though it was a cold morning, I counted three on the bush, warmer weather to come I believe, hope fully they'll be back. Goldie

Thanks for your posts Wurzel and David, I've had visits these last couple of days from Peacocks and I was surprised to see a Holly Blue on the Ivy, they really like the Ivy ,I'll give it trim later in the year, hoping to get to Monkton NR before the colder weather breaks, I've still not seen a Small Tort this year
or a Small Copper, may be too late now. Goldie

Re: Goldie M
Definitely not too late for Small Coppers I think. Small torts seem to be in short supply this year though.
Re: Goldie M
Great to see the Holly Blue Goldie I've not seen one myself for a few weeks now, mind you I've been restricted to walking to the Park or Waitrose and back As Katrina says there's still a chance for a Small Copper, there's a brood out now, but it has been dire for Small Torts

Re: Goldie M
Given where you are in the country, Goldie, you'd probably be lucky to see a Small Tortoiseshell (although they suddenly appeared in decent numbers near me last week).
As for Small Copper, they'll keep going to the end of October so there's still a good chance you may come across one or two.
Nice you had a Peacock in your garden. Not seen one for a few weeks now.
