Nikon VR Systems

Post by Chris Pickford »

Not a posting for Canonites or Sonyites (very Old Testament)

Has anyone any experience of the Nikon "cheaper" VR zooms? There is a glowing review from Ken Rockwell re the superzoom (18-200) which is fairly expensive; has anyone tried the cheaper more limited range zooms with VR for butterflies?

www.photozone.de has lots of lens tests including some of the cheaper VR lenses. The tested 55-200 VR looks very good for sharpness but for close focussing you'll need either a close up lens or extension tube. Sigma 52mm achromatic close up lenses pop up occasionally on ebay which would be ideal for the 200mm focal length. Check out www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for online Nikon prices.
