Wall from cypress

Post by OwenE »

Sorry for the back of camera. Best I can do until I get back to the U.K. but ObsIdentify has this as large wall brown rather than wall and I wondered what people thought. Was very struck by the pale body and it was large. No clear upper wing shots I’m afraid

Hills above paphos.

Impossible to be sure, Owen, but it's perfectly possible if it was a sizeable insect.

As David says, impossible to be sure, but on what can be seen, I would be leaning towards Wall rather than large Wall.

A clearer underside shot would be very helpful.

Thanks guys was more than happy with it being wall at the time. That’s the best photo but is boc onto my phone and should be clearer on a pc. But it’s down as wall

Here's the actual cropped photo rather than BOC. I'm thinking Wall based on flight times as well as visuals. Collins unfortunately doesn't include cyprus so not sure which form of Wall (or indeed large Wall) would be there. Although the cyprusbutterflies site does have very distinct dark filled in occelations on the Large Wall but not the Wall
