Yes - if you head into the park, you'll go over a series of speed bumps and eventually end up at the car park. Unless Gary tells me otherwise, I assume we'll be heading west toward the lighthouse. This is most easily reached by heading down the path to your right as you come into the car park, rather than going down the hill to the visitors' centre and "globe".Susie wrote:Is there only one carpark at Durlston?

As of Wednesday 1st October, current forecasts for the South West on Saturday from the Met Office and BBC Weather are for heavy rain. Accuweather's forecast for Poole says it'll be cloudy with a little rain. More importantly, it'll be cold and windy. I'll be there if it turns around again but unfortunately not as it stands.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Saturdays weather, is not going to be too good for looking for butterflies. I think we should shelf this one for this season, and try again next year. It may be several years before we get this October Durlston visit done

Thanks Gary - a real shame, but I think it's the right decision. I'll have to content myself with the Holly Blue larvae in the garden

Re: How about one last Butterfly fix
Oh well, and I had everything organised so I could go too. Never mind, that's the British weather for you.
Re: How about one last Butterfly fix
It's just great living in Britain ain't it.....
Following the early round of banter on Saturdays meeting I have just about arranged to be able to come as well, despite having photographed many Wall Browns in Tuscany - then I saw the weather forecast tonight and wondered!!!
Perhaps we should all have a mid-winter gathering somewhere anyway - can't think what we'd talk about though.

Re: How about one last Butterfly fix
I am sure we would think of something.
As I have arranged the day off I am still going to try to dodge the showers and go butterflying but I shall go somewhere closer to home. The opportunity for one last butterfly fix is too tempting to miss, it's going to be a long winter.

hi,
I think meeting up in the winter some where would be a brilliant idea. I am sure there would be plenty to talk about.

Well, the butterflies were on the wing in West Sussex this morning. I think Dorset's over rated.

Re: How about one last Butterfly fix
We went down the New Forest on Saturday, it was 3 degrees at dawn, and by about 11am the the rain moved in from the west. So I'm pretty sure we would of been wasting our time going all the way Durlston looking for a Wall Brown.
Anyway the NF was looking nice.

Hi all
If there is enough support for a mid-winter gathering of the troops I reckon it should be as central to us all as possible - easily accessed and ........ how about an evening meal with the possibility of an overnight stop for the travellers.
Having conversed with many of you over these past few months faces to names would be good for next year.
Or is this just too much to organise????
Mike

Going by the silence I guess it must be too much for them to organise.
There is always the photographic workshop in April.
