Favourite Butterfly Photo 2021

Favourite Butterfly Photo 2021

So that time of year has come round again and the butterflies have started to wan in both number and diversity, the leaves are changing colour, there are whisperings of beer and convivial chat in Otterbourne (bit of a hopeful plug there  ) and the nights are drawing in. However this means that it's the perfect time to have a look back at the butterfly photos that you've taken over the last year and try and work out which are your favourites. Next week sometime around teatime the “Favourite Photo” series will kick off; 3 species a week in alphabetical order growing over 20 weeks (seeing us through the winter) and culminating in the grand finale of your personal favourite butterfly photo of 2021.

Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos as it makes it a bit easier to keep track of things? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As always details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcomed as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.

So pour yourself a beverage of your choice, prepare a snack and start having a look back on 2021 in readiness!

Have a goodun and stay safe

Hi! Wurzel, that time of year again, I must say that before making my mind up to move house, in April I saw this Peacock Butterfly in Hall-Lee-Brook which was as you know my local Haunt :D so i've chosen that shot for my look back photo, I've been vacant this year quite a lot in UK butterflies but hope to make up for it when I get more settled which hope fully will be soon. :D Goldie :D

Sorry Goldie, but you have misread Wurzel's announcement. The overall favourite photo does not need to be chosen until the end of the series, which is in approximately 20 weeks time. At the moment we are working our way through the species alphabetically, starting with Adonis Blue, Brimstone and Black Hairstreak.

Hope you house move goes well :D

Vince
