Long Tailed Blue 2021

Post by Old Wolf »

Hello everyone.
After missing out on the LTB's at Whithawke Hill last year, my wish for my last trip of this year was to be to Whitehawke to hopefully see one for the first time however, there seems to be a complete lack of them on peoples PD's or the sightings page this year (apart from Philzoid, you lucky beggar    :D ).

I have been regularly checking the Butterfly Conservation Sussex branch sightings page but haven't seen any sightings mentioned!

Would it be safe to assume that with the persistant and quite chilly wind blowing from the north (until only a few weeks back) that the weather has not been favorable enough for them to visit in any reasonable numbers?

Additionally, are there any good sites that keep a track of sightings of LTB's?

Any thoughts or information as to whether there is still hope for this year will be greatly appreciated.
Old Wolf.

There's been a handful of sightings along the south coast this year but I'd leave traveling any distance until another year. You are correct in that the weather has most likely stopped them migrating north to our shores in any numbers this year. This site, the Sussex BC sightings page, Facebook butterfly groups and Twitter are all useful places to keep track on things.
