Luscious Lashes. Small Skipper pose

Post by Devon Dave »

Hi ,
and a very Happy New Year to everyone from Devon. Going through the hundreds of butterfly related photos I have taken over the years, to pass away the Wintery days I came across this photo I took during last summer of a Small Skipper in a local meadow. She (or he) had the most luscious eyelashes. I thought I might share this photo might brighten up this frosty New Years Day

Great picture!

The green hairstreak genus, Callophrys, is named after its beautiful eyebrows. Perhaps Thymelicus should have been called Calloblepharides - 'luscious eyelashes'.

That's a lovely shot, Dave. I'd never noticed their 'lashes' before....though my eyesight isn't what it was. :)
