Skyfish/lying Rods

Post by Stevieb »

Apologies that this isn't a butterfly sighting but perhaps a moth?

I've captured this on my trail camera in the garden. Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially if others have had experiences with these strange objects.

I caught one on the camera again last night

Many thanks in advance.

Steve

I have the video but don't know how to add it so here's a video grab.

I think these are generally accepted to be flying insects caught at slow exposure speeds.

Jose Escamilla, the bloke who first described ‘skyfish’ was a friend of mine, and believed until his dying day that he had described a new life form. And whilst there are aspects of the work of Trevor James Constable, for example, which still intrigue, I am as sure as I can be that ‘skybeasts’ or ‘rods’ like these are blurry moths. Sad but true
