I'll certainly miss the Small Torts, they're the first Butterfly I see in the Garden in Spring, I've not seen any for a couple of days now, I've been leaving my garage door open when I'm doing the garden so hope fully some have gone in there for the Winter, it's gone a lot cooler here, mostly at night, the Whites are still flying though Goldie

Good luck with your plans to move Goldie. From my perspective here in the midlands, I can certainly understand the temptation to move down south and in your case with family down there it makes sense.

Let's put it this way, Goldie, if I were going to live in Kent, not only would I plant some BLEP in my garden, but I'd also let a few seeds loose in the immediate area in the hope of attracting LTBs.

They seem to be attracted to higher ground, so perhaps you should consider a house in a lofty position!

If you're anywhere near the coast then I'm sure a few Pea plants in and around your garden will bring something nice in. Also try some Wild Pansy for Queen of Spain Fritillary and while you're at it might as well have some Fennel as well for any passing Swallowtails. Mind you if you end up with all these rare migrants living in your back garden you might have to erect an electrified barbwire fence to keep over enthusiastic butterfliers at bay

I bet you're itching to head south now, Goldie. With the right plants in your garden you could attract all sorts of things from nearby chalk downs. Judging by the knack you have for drawing butterflies in up in the northwest, your camera will get lots of exercise. I remember when I lived in Dover (getting on for 30 years ago now) we regularly had Chalkhill Blues and Walls in the garden... I hope your plans all work out over the winter months so you'll be able to welcome the butterflies in next spring.

Many thanks everyone, no takers yet, it's surprising what people want in a house I'm ready for off and all your posts make me want to be there and planting No rush though, although I wouldn't fancy moving at Christmas time.

If I get a place near the sea I can see I'll have a lot of cups of tea to make At least i'll have people near with the same interests

In my last post I said I'd not seen the the Small Tort's and thought they'd gone for the Winter, would you believe it, they were back Sunday and Monday way up high on the yellow Buddleia
The nice week-end we had brought them back, also I'd a Comma here for a full day, also saw a rather nice Speckled Wood but it's markings on the side wings had no Green like the last one I saw. I also had Large White's and numerous Small Whites , they do cheer you up no end Goldie

Long time in getting back to you Wurzel I was whisked a way to Kent by my Daughter last week and I've been looking at properties whilst here taking advantage of the time here
Every thing is going slow at present up there, so i'm not missing much. I've only seen a few Butterflies since I arrived, a Speckie, Small White and Red Admiral, the weather here was shocking at first and since then it's been cold until yesterday when I saw the Butterflies. I'll keep a look out for more but I'm off back shortly. Goldie

The weather was shocking indeed, Goldie, so I'm not surprised you haven't seen much. I daresay there'll be precious little on your return to the north west but with any luck you'll have relocated by next spring....fingers crossed.

Thanks for your posts, Wurzel and David, What a difference down here is to up North, it was great to get a way even if I was busy viewing
Things have come to a halt as far as that goes up there, but coming here was good i'd a good look round, now it remains hope fully, to sell some time on my side, I'm in no hurry, it's just as well
It was great to see the Speckie etc , I'd given up on the Butterflies with the weather being rough, hope fully I'll see a few more before the frosts arrive.

Hi! David, sorry for the delay in replying, since I got back from Kent I've been trying to clear my Garage out, finally I've ordered a skip, my Husband was a real hoarder I bet I need more than one skip

Very prescient, Goldie. For the first time, it looks as though England is going to be in a worse position than Wales. There seems to be no end to it, and you're right to isolate yourself given what's going on right now. Seems to be younger ones contracting it this time - we've even had half a dozen or so from my workplace. Stay in and stay safe!
