White ID

Image taken at Alton Water, in Suffolk, near Tattingstone Wonder.

The breif veiw I had of the wing underside resembled that of a Green-veined White but the wing's upper pattern does not resemble anything in my guides. Is this a Green-veined White?

The majority of butterflies flying that day were Green-veined Whites.

The habitat is woodland margin alongside a large expanse of fresh water. There are also wild flower meadows and extensive bramble patches.

Hi Paul, and welcome.
It certainly looks like a GVW to me. The amount of black marking is variable as with other species.

This looks like a second brood female Green-veined White to me, but the markings look more spread than on normal individuals!

Many thanks Folks. I thought it probably was a GVW but thought I'd better check :D

BTW, how do you determine between male and female in the species?

The male has a single spot on the forewing, the female has two. Here's a male:
