Hi Birdy,

I was at Fontmell last Sunday and the Adonis are just emerging there, about ten days behind those on the coast.

Silver Spotted Skipper were in reasonable numbers (but not at peak emergence) too and have performed exceptionally at Fontmell in recent years.

If the weather is on your side I think that you stand a very good chance of getting some great pics of both species.

Good hunting!

Felix.

Saw my first one last weekend. I've never seen one before. I was at Ranmore common near Dorking, there were about 10 of them and masses of Chalkhill Blues.

Hiya

I was at Ranmore Common today and saw half a dozen Adonis Blues. Among them was an abberation which is recorded as ab 'Krodeli' in South's British Butterflies. A google search shows that this has been before at a few places, but does anyone know if this is common?

Many thanks - Rob

i made my visit to fontmell down on fri the 22nd aug, sunney int 20.C . after being on the slope for awhile i lost count of the adonis blue flying, the silver spotted skippers were more diff staying in the grass, and acting more like grasshoppers, you disturb them and they zoom off.from this visit i would say that fontmell down deserves its 5 star rating on this site.thanks for all the help. a visit to noar hill in hants produced a female brown hairstreak , so not a bad trip at all.
