Hi! Wurzel, I think that's what happened with these Ducklings :D they were following the Dog every where :D they certainly thought the dog was Mum  In the Garden I throw a few handfuls of Bone Meal :D

Hi! Neil, thanks for the info on Brockholes, it's a big place so it should be easy to keep a distance, it's only about 15mins a way which will help, it's a bit too soon for the WLHS's s, it's good to know it's opened, I should be able to seek them out later :D
Hope fully the Common Blue 's and Small Copper will be there. :D

Nothing happening today so far, it's warmer but very cloudy no Sun so far, I think Wednesday's to be the best day, roll on!!!Goldie :D

Love the dog with the chicks, Goldie. Our own German Shepherd, Joelie, is very protective of our poultry although since we got rid of our cockerel we sadly haven't had any baby chickens to look after.

Pet animals can be funny - our dog absolutely HATES a fox yet she'll lie on the ground with chickens pecking around her as if it were natural.

Thanks for your posts Wurzel and David, I was in the Garden this afternoon Wurzel and the Bone Meal did the trick again

We use to have a Dog David, she was a cross between a German Shepherd and a Labrador she looked more Shepherd than Lab, she also had a lovely nature, I don't know if she'd have been so friendly with hen's though, Sheba thought any thing that had four legs and moved had to be played with.

Today I actually made it to Brockholes :D when I got there the gates were shut, the Car Park closed, there's two separate roads at Brockholes, one to go in and one to exit, having planned on this visit for so long and having been stuck at home for so long I was not going to go back, I turned the car round and parked on the Exit road with the other car's, nobody was there at the time so I set off up the road.
When your in the car you don't realise just how far a walk will be  I'd my walking stick for guidance :D When I finally reached the part where I'd seen the Common Blue before, at first I saw nothing, then has I walked through the tall grass and flowers I spotted them :D It felt great to be out :D I also saw a rather nicely marked GVW.
I stayed for a couple of hour's having gone early I returned home about lunch time, it was absolutely roasting in the Garden so I put the Sun shade up and had just settled down when I saw a flash of bright yellow, I couldn't believe my eyes, a Brimstone on the Bowles Mauve :D It landed right in the middle of the plant :D I did my best with the shots  I also managed another Large White, :D
Later two Holly Blue flew through but didn't stop, hope fully they'll be back :D Goldie :D

Hi! Wurzel, it was really eerie at Brockholes, I only saw about four couples walking, but there were loads there on Bikes so I kept away from the cycle paths, I did think of walking by the River Ribble but I saw men fishing so decided just to keep to the mane route until I got to the meadows.
I won't bother going again until late June hope fully the car park will be open then, I think they closed it because it's got a huge children's area with loads of things for them to go on, it can only be that because even when there's loads there it's a huge country park with two woodland area's, surrounded by fields full of wild flowers, plus the River and two lakes, it was great to be out and do and see some thing different like you said in your post :D
Rain and strong winds today and tomorrow so not much going on here for a couple of day's, not much on the wing either, I only saw the Blues and one or two white's at the CP with the exception of three Orange tips that went flying passed and an handful of GVW's
you can tell I'm getting bored now can't you with the length of my post :D Goldie :D

Yes, there's a bit of a 'Twilight Zone' feeling when visiting the countryside at the moment, Goldie. I went to a regular haunt the other day and saw six deer casually munching away in a place I never knew they frequented - clearly they are enjoying the continuing relative absence of we human beings.

Nice selection of Common Blues. They've exploded into life near me and have taken over from Orange Tips as the most common species.

For me it was a great relief when travel restrictions were lifted.
Let's hope they open the car parks as well, though many of the sites I visit
it is possible to park safely in a lay by or road side.
Good to see your mating Common Blues, I've only seen males up to now.

Stay well,
Trevor.

Many thanks for your posts Wurzel and Trevor,
My family ring me every other day Wurzel, of course it's not like being with them, so hope fully July will be more fruitful and we can move further. :D

Hi! Trevor, it's the first journey I've taken that's had it's gates shut, not that I've been to too many, it does put you off going when you know all the facilitates are closed when you get there and you've to walk a good distance  I didn't see what I wanted when I got there :D a Small Copper :D

Today in my garden I saw my first Red Admiral of this year, I didn't manage a shot though, I was tying some perennials to a stick when it landed in front of me :D , I don't know who was more surprised  it shot off but at least I know they're a round now :D

I did have the company of a Large White, (no opened wing shots) and a Small White unusual because at first I thought it was another Brimstone it was so Yellow on the underside of it's wings and unlike the other Butterflies it stayed in the garden for over an hour, I did try to get an open wing shot so I could see it's open wings because on close up they seemed to be dusted with black, (not very good though )after it finished on the Bowles Mauve it settled down for over Half an hour on a plant that's yet to grow more before it flowers, I can't think what the plants called but it's gray and produces red flowers in Summer.

Any way ,at least the weather was great after the 40mile an hour winds we've had  Goldie :D

That is a beautiful 'Small Lemon' Goldie  :D  I sometimes despair at the boring names we give to butterflies (and other animals) Why couldn't we have names like 'Lemon or Lime' (Brimstone) or Balog for Small Heath (Bloody annoying little orange git)?

That is indeed a very yellowish Small White, Goldie. Most attractive. Glad to hear you're off the mark Red Admiral-wise; I've only seen three myself thus far, and for probably the first time in years Meadow Browns are out prior to me getting an image of an RA!!

Hi! Wurzel and David, in-spite of the nice weather, nothing much seems to be flying here, I went to Hall-Lee-Brook today and saw two whites  I thought maybe the Meadow Browns may be out but nothing, I did see a rather worn Peacock and thought I saw a Red Admiral, the Butterfly kept it's wings closed so I'm not sure what it was, I did take a shot of it but it didn't hang about and was too far a way to pick up any markings.
I did see a Large White this morning and when I got back from HLB another came into the garden, I'm afraid that's all I'm seeing at present  Still, it's better than nothing :D Goldie :D

At least your garden is still producing Goldie - cracking Large Whites :D Perhaps the 'June Gap' has already started which is why the butterflies are a little scarce? :?

Today I was going to do some traveling , I decided to have my lunch in the Garden first, I was half way through my sandwich when a female OT arrived in the garden, she stayed until after five pm, I decided I'd stay has well, it was so hot but we still had a nice breeze, the OT also felt the heat she would circle the Bowies Mauve than settle for ages wings closed in the shade, she repeated this until she eventually flew off.

I was able to get quite a few shots and one in particular makes me wonder if there really is Fairies  Goldie :D

We must have posted at the same time Wurzel   Thanks for your post :D
