Marsh Fritillary on Lydlinch Common

Post by Innes Henry »

Wednesday 13 under new lockdown guidelines I drove to Lydlinch and despite a real nip in the air 11 degrees and a blustery wind I was rewarded when the sun came by seeing numerous Marsh Frits. Brightened my day 😀

Nice video there Jim! Our Lincolnshire Marsh Frits have been on the wing for just over a week now - hoping to go see them next week but I reckon the massive population explosion of the past two years is waning...

Lydlinch Common was where I saw my one and only Marsh Fritillary in England. It was about 40 years ago and was right at the end of the flight season.

Strange how the memory of the first time you saw a species stays with you for ever.

I've just been today and seen around 100 including 2 mating pairs so there's hope yet
