Abberant Duke.

Post by Allan.W. »

Yesterday afternoon we visited ,a small local Duke site (in Kent ) and was fortunate enough to find a nice female AB;Leucoides, we also found some quite scarce arable plants ,along the way.
Today we decided to re-visit the arable field and give it another "go" to see what else we could find ,and was lucky enough to find a small
clump of the Scarce (in Kent ) Dwarf Spurge (Euphorbia exigua ) ,to go with yesterdays find ,Venus looking glass (Legusia hybrida ) .
We decided that as we were within a mile of the Duke site ,we,d give it another look ,more cloud today ,and it made the Dukes easier to approach,
we found seven in all ,the second as yesterday was a very pale individual AB;Leucoides …….. this time a male .

Hello Goldie ,
Yes ,I have been lucky ,never thought I,d be looking at any Dukes this year ! let alone these pale individuals,i did actually photograph another
male similar to the one pictured. As well as a couple of scarce plants ………………..Well pleased .
Are you thinking of Denge wood ,if so ,no not there but fairly close by ,a site I,ve been looking at for about 30 years ,and one of several very small monitored colonies that exists near the Denge Complex .,a lot of work has been done at these sites to improve conditions for the Dukes
and at present they seem to be doing reasonably well .
