I am going to Portugal and Southern Spain in May next year and would like to see Monarch, are there any good sites anyone can recommend. I will be travelling all over so not worried about being close to anywhere

Thanks

Mark

I've seen them in Gibraltar (Trafalgar cemetery) but I'm told they are no longer resident there. I also saw loads on the beaches of Tangiers about 10 years ago, on a day-trip from Gibraltar, but I was so plagued by aggressive hawkers (human) that I couldn't get any decent pictures.

Rosy Rustic saw them in Portugal this year so she should have some up-to-date gen.

Saw Spanish Fritillaries in May at Senora de Rocha near Portimao on the Algarve a few years ago, in a gully off a beach! Probably built on by now!!

I went to Southern Spain last year (Malaga) and I did not see any.
If you really want to see them, plan a trip to the Canaries Islands. I went to Gran Canaria in December time and saw them there. I may be wrong but I believe that they are there all year round.
Good luck anyway,
Sylvie
