South Florida

Post by Stevieb »

Just got back from a weeks holiday in West Palm Beach and Key Biscayne, Miami.

We were meant to be staying a few days with my sister-in-law in West Palm Beach then joining a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. The cruise was cancelled due to Corvid-19 so we decided to spend the time thereafter in Key Biscayne.

The weather in West Palm Beach was unseasonably cloudy and windy but the butterflies did show. The weather in Key Biscayne was hot and sunny. Not so many butterflies about but found a great colony of Atala butterflies which I visited most days. Can never get tired of photographing them! Below is a selection. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Lovely stuff. Brings back happy memories of a Florida trip more years ago than I care to remember. Remember some stunning dragonflies as well as the bird life, alligators, manatees, etc

....and in the nick of time, Stevie. Shame about the cruise but given recent events you can probably consider yourself fairly fortunate.

Beautiful array of species. I love the Gulf Fritillary in particular. Such a fabulous butterfly!

Yes, I remember seeing plenty of these gently fluttering over low vegetation. Would love to return one day, though not going to be any time too soon now!
