A very Happy New Year to all good and upstanding forum members.
With a week or so of relatively benign weather forecast, I reckon some on here may have a chance of a very early sighting...

Re: January 2020
A few more New Year's Eve party drinks and I'm not sure I'll be either good or upstanding but ...
Happy New Year anyway

Re: January 2020
New Year’s Day sighting but not as I would have wanted. A Small Tortoiseshell that had remained undetected in the lounge woke up and fluttered by the window. I am surprised it has hibernated so well in a centrally heated house.
It certainly would not have a good future if let free outdoors now. So it has been boxed, and is outside where temperature is currently is a balmy 7C. When we get the next cold spell, it will be brought indoors and join two others already in the fridge.

It's now sound asleep - and looking very healthy - in its box in the fridge where temperature is around +4C.

I checked Hutchinsons Bank this morning and to my surprise the Glanville Fritillary larvae were awake and sunning themselves on the hibernation web, its at least 3 weeks early. I also saw a female Comma at the end of the cutting.
