Underside of Blue for ID

Post by cjs »

I took this photo at Milk Hill Pewsey Downs this week. I did see Adonis and Common Blue but never saw any Chalkhill Blue's (although they are thought to be present). Help with ID would be great.

Hi cjs

Looks like Chalk Hill to me. In my part of the country (Hampshire) they are a lot more common than Adonis.

Cheers, Rupert

I agree - this is a chalkhill blue.

Thanks Rupert and Thanks Guy, I'm very pleased with that confirmation. It was a very hot day when I was there and not many of the "blues" were settling so I spent a few hours chasing up and down the hillside, which I enjoyed but found it exhausting! This is the first Adonis and Chalhill Blue I have seen!
