I have seen a lot of these this year, and ideas ?

Post by Nigel »

While out looking for Butterflies to photograph, I have seen a lot of these this year and they always seem a lot easier to see that Butterflies. Especially when they are busy enjoying themselves :)

And ideas on ID please (picture taken in Oxfordshire while looking for SSS)

thanks Nigel

Not 100% sure but it could be Rhagonycha Fulva which is abundant nearly everywhere May-August.

Otherwise known as common red soldier beetle. They're always at it, so much so they have the nickname of hogweed bonking beetle. :D

Yep, thousands of those here... All they really seem to do is either mate or feed or both. The "Hogweed bonking beetle" is 100% diagnosis doc!

I'm starting to have second thoughts about my reincarnation. I always fancied coming back as a Golden Eagle, or even a mere Buzzard, cruising the thermals. But these Beatles, :? they may have a short life, but the none stop sex, is quite tempting. :D

Half an hour? No wonder they spend a lot of their time lying down... And presumably this means there's a dedicated team of scientists somewhere who've stood with stop watches waiting for the poor piggies to, um, finish?Reincarnation as a beetle sounds much better - a nice life in the fresh air with no heavy lifting ;)

Heck, I'll come back as a adult male lion, they can do it up to 50 times a day and are pretty nasty when they want to be. (Not saying I ever would be nasty) and they are cool in my opinion.

Dave, have you ever smelt an adult male lion? euuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Plus, all that running around chasing after your food - far too much effort!

Much better to come back as a creature that can find sex whenever it wants, where food is easy to come by, full of sugars and fats costs very little calorific value to catch, where one lives in a gregarious group with others with similar markings and behaviour and trundles round all day causing noise and disturbance wherever they go.

However, I can't quite work out whether this description better matches a Chimp or a teenage Chav.....

All the women I've been with got half an hour minimum, and I'd say that 30 minutes was a"quickie" :D

that was 30 minutes orgasming, not just 30 minutes doin'-the-do!

I can think of much more interesting things to spend half an hour doing. Watching Ray Mears' Wild Food, for instance.

30 minutes actually orgasming?!!! Go to your lifeboat stations immediately. Don warm clothes and lifejackets. Women and children first!

Well then, like I said, leave you to it - plenty of time to go off and heat a frozen pizza or empty the cat's litter tray
