Long Tailed Blue Dorset.

Post by mvpike »

Hi,

Came across this fine specimen at Alners Gorse in Dorset yesterday (15th Aug) being chased around by a couple of Common Blues and a Brown Argus! At least it stayed still enough for a few quick pics though. . .

Cheers,

Mark.

Very nice, Mark! It might be worth going back for another look, as my experience suggests that they travel in mixed sex groups, so there may be one or two females in the vicinity.

Thanks Neil,

As you can imagine I had a good hour or so looking around the immediate area but unfortunately never saw it again (or any others) but I may vist again early next week "just in case"!

Nice to have met you at Ditchling back in June by the way . . . I was the mad individual who travelled there by train from Dorset! Well worth the effort though

I started this thread on a weather group about possible frost-free locations and LT Blues.

Good find, MV. Decent distance away from the coast too. Augurs well for a few more sightings, hopefully.

I can imagine. I'm down Dorset way next week, might have to try this site myself, never been there before but I always hear good things about it even when not being visited by rarities :)

I go there regularly at this time of year as I live quite close primarily for Brown Hairstreak which in itself is a rarity, especially this season as they seem a bit thinner on the ground than previous years.
