Re: Katrina
That's the classic shot of a Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary, Katrina - settled on the emerging frond of a fern. Beautiful.
Getting up early worked with the Small Blues too. Love the image where the dew drops surround the butterfly.

Dorset
I went with my sister to Dorset yesterday to took for Lulworth Skippers.
We arrived late afternoon / early evening and found some in Lulworth Cove yesterday (approx 6)
Today we saw them at the car park and Corfe Castle and then some at Durlston Country Park.

Re: Katrina
Good to see the Lulworths, Katrina - I think that the doubtful one has to be a Lulworth too as it's a bit early for the other two that fly alongside later on. In July it can get very confusing! At least it's a butterfly with a long season, so I can catch up with them a bit later.
Cheers,
Dave

Sorry to have missed you Wurzel. Lulworth Cove was beautiful and we enjoyed the ice cream too!
Re: Katrina
It's a beautiful spot to visit, Katrina. I haven't been for a few years now, more's the pity.
Glad you got to see the eponymous skipper.

Re: Katrina
Yes, well done from me too, lovely images as well. It’s amazing to think they will probably still be flying at the end of August!
Re: Katrina
Thanks David, it is a beautiful spot. Thanks essexbuzzard is good to hear they have a long flight period. Very useful when and where to find them info on Dorset butterfly sightings page too.
Re: Katrina
Great shots of the Lulworth Skippers Katrina. I can't decide whether I'm more envious of your lovely images or your day out at Lulworth and Durlston
Re: Katrina
Lulworths already, the Spring Skippers and Green Hairstreaks are still far from over! Looks like I'll be sorting myself out a trip to Durlston on the coming weeks
Some addictions are good for the soul!
Re: Katrina
A mrgreen for some lovely images of a species I have never seen .
Doug and I are going after something ( hopefully ) much larger next week.
Trevor.

Re: Katrina
Thanks Pauline, I think the 21 hours in Dorset was better than the shots. I didn’t like the traffic on the way there though.
Thanks Trevor , excluding cryptic wood white I just have one resident species left to see in the U.K. Have fun with your bigger butterflies. We think we saw the moth version of what you seek while we were at Durlston.

Iping Common
I arrived at Iping Common at 4.45pm. I found 7 male and one female Silver-Studded Blues before the cows decided to join me! The female was roosting on a juicy clump of grass so I hope she didn't get eaten
Re: Katrina
Lovely shots of the Silver Studded Blues, Katrina.
Hope to get over there myself, But with something much larger on the horizon, who knows !.
Best wishes,
Trevor.

Re: Katrina
A lovely sequence Katrina What's going on in the third shot? Is that two males on the one blade of grass or an attempted pairing?
