Ladybird Invasion

Post by Hoggers »

Over the past week I've noticed quite a lot of Ladybirds coming in to my house, mainly via the bedroom and bathroom windows. Yesterday, for example, I counted 4 coming in the bathroom window and 2 more in my bedroom. Last week they were particularly noticeable and I had about 10 come inside.

I imagine they are looking for somewhere to hibernate but I wondered if other people were seeing them in unusually high numbers?

Hi Paul, they seem to be everywhere at the moment and they can nip.

I was covered in them down at Denbies last week (some photos in my diary), and there were quite a few at Mill Hill today as well. And yes, they do occasionally nibble! :)

Swarms of ladybirds were worrying visitors to Waddesdon Manor, during the very warm weather on Wednesday (10th Oct).

I took this group by the Aviary and there is a wide variety of spot patterns to be seen:

A furled shade umbrella attracted a large number in the late afternoon.

in addition, what I think is a Noble False Widow Spider (Steatoda nobilis) was causing some consternation as it tried to hide in a crevice by the door into the Ladies!
