Fermyn Woods, Northants - Sunday 13_07_2008

Post by NickB »

More like Picadilly Circus than a quiet wood! Many groups and individuals out to see his majesty - and we were not disappointed! After a cloudy start up to 3 Purple Emperors at a time were down on the track taking-up minerals from - well, shrimp paste and a fox's calling card seemed the favourites. Until that is, one of the group (will ask JackHarr for his name) seemed even more attractive!

Also good numbers of White Admirals and reports of Silver Washed frits in the main drives and White-Letter Hairstreak in the elms along the tracks

Ian Kirkton I think - he with the smelly boots. But neatly tied laces don't you think?

Seeing that on the screen, it loooks as if I have cut and pasted the butterfly onto a background. I can assure you I didn't.

Ian's trousers were also very popular.

And Nick Ballard studying fox droppings (there happens to be a PE in the photo but that is incidental)

(Matthew - feel free to use any of my photos on The Purple Empire)
