Notes and Views - August 2018

Post by Vince Massimo »

Mixed butterfly species pairings are seen infrequently, but it's highly unusual to find a butterfly mating with a moth. In this case a male Small White with a Brimstone moth. Photographed by MaryAnne on 14th August and reported on Twitter https://twitter.com/maryanne1601/status ... 2315049984

Two sightings of Monarch have been reported by BC Scotland this month on the west coast - the first near Oban and the second on Islay.

I believe there is good reason to assume the first was from a wedding release, and so presumably the second was also.

The sooner this practice is stopped the better, especially when the butterflies are non-native ones. :(
