Chapelle-des-Bois,Doubs, France.

Can someone offer an ID for this Butterfly seen at Chapelle-des-Bois, quite a large butterfly, a little worn the only one seen.possible Mazarine Blue (Cyaniris semiargus) ?

Thanks Guy for the ID could you give me the species full name I have not been able to find any information on the internet under its form name arete.

You may like to comment on these Marbled Whites (Melanargia galathea) there were two among a group of 20/30 nectaring on Knapweed at a site in the Dordogne.
Two different specimens plus upper side shot.

The ringlet's full title is Aphantopus hyperantus form arete. See http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/aberrati ... hyperantus for a description or do a Google search for more pictures and information.

Your marbled white is form leucomelas (interesting etymological relation to Melanargia!). This is regular in southern populations of marbled white, as is its equivalent, form cataleuca, in Iberian marbled white (Melanargia lachesis).
