Bog at Ballyfatherly Co Down

Post by Dave McCormick »

I am writing a report on this and will post it soon. This was an excellent trip I made to this bog. This bog was only a few acres in size, but packed with wildlife. People wanted to put a sewage punping power station on it :( hope that ever happens. I Saw:

50+ small heaths (never seen so many before, I practically had 10 flying around my head at one point)
10+ common blues
4+ Dark Green Fritillaries (very fast, not staying still long)
60+ Latticed and Common Heath Moth
10+ Clouded Border (normal form) moths
4+ 6 Spot Burnet moths
20+ Meadow Browns
5+ Small Whites
10+ Ringlets
15+ Speckled Wood
few large white
some various unidentified moths
2+ Small Tortoiseshell
hundreds of grasshoppers and common frogs
Also a large unidentified fast flying moth

Will post a report that includes pics soon. Good day and never been here before.
Cheers all,

Here is my report. The PDF document is around 24MB and link is here: http://www.zamzar.com/download.php?uid= ... 2008_1.pdf

Sorry for file size being so big, but there is quite a few pics on report. Oh and the six spot burnet is actually narrow borderd 5 spot.
Cheers all,

I reposted the report on my website. Here is page on trip: http://www.davesleps.110mb.com/Website/ ... _Bog_1.htm I updated some pics and information. If anyone knows what the micro moth on bottom of page is, could they let me know?

I have decided to post trips on page, rather than as a download.
