Silver Studded Blue in Leyland

Post by Mr_Simnock »

I currently work for the NHS based at the old British Leyland Site at (shock) Leyland Lancashire (now simply called Lancs Enterprise Business Park). I enjoyed a nice walk out and about near my office today in the sunshine and spotted this fellow on a road side verge, it is (I think) a Silver Studded Blue, if it isn't I would love to know what it is. I have spotted them before last year and now want to find out more. I have checked the excellent butterfly identification pages of this web site and I think this might be Plebejus argus ssp. caernensis? I am surprised to find it at the Park as there are only small islands of flowers and vegetation for any insect to sustain itself. Any more information on the butterfly in the image is greatly appreciated.

Sitting in a sea of one of its primary food plants, Birds-foot Trefoil, from the looks of things :)
