Small Heath

Post by JIMCOBB49 »

Is this a Small Heath-taken in Angus Scotland? The reason I ask is that it has 2 spots on the wing whereas any pictures I've seen of this species and any others I've seen have only had one.Could this be a known variant?Any help appreciated Jim

It looks like a Small Heath, Jim, but it is certainly very different to the normal wing markings one finds with this species. The only other species it could be would be Large Heath, but I've never seen one like this.

Hello Jim,
If you look on the "BRITISH BUTTERFLIES ABBERATIONS " site, you,ll find a couple of specimens that could be yours .
